presence

A poem about finding acceptance in the present, in the waiting and in the pain.

I take a deep breath

And realise,

This is how it’s supposed to be.

 

I can’t run from it,

Can’t hide from it

Can’t fight it,

Can’t change it.

 

I can only be still.

 

To rest in it,

To accept it,

To lean into it,

And find purpose amongst it.

 

Be present,

Here and now,

And rest

In the One who is,

And was,

And always will be.

 

Lean into Him,

Rest in the cradle of His arms.

And let Him nurse me,

Into the future.

 

I may not be able

To change the present.

Nor press the accelerator,

In this vehicle called life.

 

All I can do,

Is hope.

Hope for a breakthrough,

Hope that things will change.

 

All I can do,

Is know,

That He holds my future,

And has good plans to bestow.

 

I have learnt

That kicking and screaming,

Won’t change anything.

And that the question, “Why?”,

Has no answer.

 

I have learnt

That resting and being,

And opening your eyes to seeing,

Will change something.

Change something in you,

And make you new.

 

Being with Him,

Is the key

That unlocks transformation

Allowing you to see,

All that He is,

And all that you can be.

 

Resting in Him

Is the blanket

That wraps you tightly.

Keeping you warm

In the storm, in the pain,

That drains you and strains you,

And wanes you.

 

It is the comfort,

That holds you.

The One who carries you through.

 

Through the murky waters,

And the valleys,

And the dark.

 

The One who carries you home,

Safely, in His arms.

 

I have fought and pleaded,

Waiting for Him to intervene.

And whilst the grass hasn’t greened,

Something within me,

Has been redeemed.
