Humbled

A poem on the humility that comes through suffering and refinement; when everything is removed from our lives, yet we continue to praise and trust in Him.

I am nothing.
Completely empty
And void of substance.
Yet, I lack nothing.
You have stripped me bare,
Peeled back the layers,
Removing every
Desire and dependency.
You have emptied me out,
Throwing all that I am into the furnace.
Burning every evil tendency
In the scorching fire of refinement.
All that is not pleasing to you –
sent to the grave.
Father, I am your empty vessel.
My heart is pained and grieving,
Yet I know that you are enough.
I shall not want; I do not lack.
I deserve nothing,
No blessing or love.
Yet, you pour out your Spirit,
Flooding my heart’s void with living water.
Even though you have taken
All that I ever loved,
I will not curse your name.
I will praise you forever.
For your goodness and love
Reign eternal.
You are above the pain,
With a greater perspective.
You are painting the canvas,
You are sculpting the clay –
Envisioning the final product.
I live knowing
In love
And in discipline,
you destroy to rebuild.
Father, I trust you.
You know me best -
Aware of my deepest needs,
And aligning my desires.
Though I am empty,
I am full.
Though I have nothing,
I have everything.
With you,
I am completely satisfied.
Father,
Your love is enough.
