Dancing in the Downpour

The drought is ending and the downpour is on the horizon. I wait with expectation. I prepare in anticipation.

1 Kings 18:43-45
43 “Go and look toward the sea,” he told his servant. And he went up and looked. “There is nothing there,” he said. Seven times Elijah said, “Go back.”
44 The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” So Elijah said, “Go and tell Ahab, ‘Hitch up your chariot and go down before the rain stops you.’”
45 Meanwhile, the sky grew black with clouds, the wind rose, a heavy rain started falling and Ahab rode off to Jezreel.
I see a cloud rising,
From the depths of the sea.
The size of a man’s fist,
Yet full of potential.
I race across the plain,
Stirring up the desert dust again.
It rises to meet the anticipation,
Hanging thick with expectation.
I can taste the moisture,
Parching my thirst.
I can feel the rain,
soothe my blistered skin.
I can see the downpour,
It’s coming in the cloud!
Quick! Prepare the chariots,
or be overwhelmed by the flood!
It’s not a drip,
Nor a drop.
It’s not a plop,
plop,
plop.
But a torrent,
To refresh the parched land.
A gush of water,
To create rivers in the wasteland.
Open the floodgates!
Let the blessings fall.
Come to your people,
Lord, hear our call!
I am pulling on my gumboots,
And my raincoat too.
Ready for an abundance of fruits,
That are too good to be true.
I am dancing in the downpour,
The cool rain on my skin.
I am dancing in the downpour,
In rivers of blessing.
I am dancing in the downpour –
In the rain, in the flood.
The drought has ended,
A new season has begun.
